Greely Community Association

Welcome to the GCA!

The Greely Community Association (GCA) is a not-for-profit organization created to advance community interests and improve the quality of life for the people of Greely. Our members are local residents and dedicated volunteers who share an interest in their community. The GCA shares information and provides support to the Greely community in several ways:

  • o      We provide a forum for discussion of issues, build consensus and bring conclusions to the public attention;
  • o      We cooperate with and support other community organizations in the pursuit of common interests;
  • o      We keep the community informed about activities and opportunities that may be of benefit or interest to Greely residents;
  • o      We initiate social, educational, recreational and other new programs as needs present themselves in our community.

In early May, 2020, the Osgoode Township Museum announced its Rural Ottawa Barn Quilt Trail Project. Since the COVID-19 pandemic started, they looked at ways to engage community members and bring visitors to our community while maintaining physical distancing. They invited families, farm owners and agricultural businesses to create a barn quilt as a way to celebrate our rural heritage. This project is a combination of a tourism attraction, a business marketing tool, and a showcase of our unique community history. As a permanent part of our landscape, it will build community and provide the perfect opportunity to expand cultural tourism in the Osgoode Ward. Barn quilts tell stories about individual farms, historical events or communities while also adding visual interest to the countryside and increasing rural tourism. The Metcalfe Fair has reached out to its members, and the community at large, to help create two “quilts”, to be displayed on our iconic Agricultural Hall. Several artists have been busy creating and painting their blocks, and they have now been pieced together to make the pieces of art that will be unveiled on Saturday, October 3rd, at 10 a.m. COVID-19 restrictions prevent us from inviting you to view this unveiling in person, but we hope you will take part by viewing it on the Metcalfe Fair YouTube channel!
